Held annually, the flagship conference of the Society for Pharmaceutical Dissolution Science (SPDS) brings together professionals from pharmaceutical R&D, quality assurance and quality control as well as academics from India and abroad, attended by speakers from United States, Europe and Asia. This year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the international conference was organized online in collaboration with AAPS, USA and co-hosted the event from June 24-26, 2021 (3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., IST ).

The conference started with a prayer and the Anugraha Bashan by Pujya Swamiji Sachidananda Maharaj, The Muttathipathi by Mahameeru Peetam, Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh.

The event was opened by the guest of honor – Dr BPS Reddy, President of the Hetero Enterprise Group and Guest of Honor B Suresh, Pro-Chancellor, JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research, Mysuru and President, Pharmacy Council of India.

The theme of the event was “Dissolution as an essential tool for the performance of pharmaceuticals”. The Society for Pharmaceutical Dissolution Science (SPDS), an organization soon to end its 10 years, has gained international presence and acceptance in a short time.

Disso India-2021 Online had a total of 19 lectures given by prominent professionals working in the pharmaceutical industry from around the world as well as academics coupled with a roundtable. The international conference brought together more than 2,000 delegates over the three days, from industry and academia from around the world. Subject matter experts presented various advances and developments related to the science of dissolution and its applications. The event is organized by its chairman – Vijay Kshirsagar, vice chairman, Dr Padma Devarajan, vice chairman -SPDS and general secretary Dr L Ramaswamy, managing director of Sotax India and members of the organizing committee.

The scientific sessions were scheduled and executed under the chairmanship of Professor Arvind Bansal, Head of Department of Pharmacy, NIPER, SAS Nagar and Co-Chair-Dr Vinod P Shah, ex-US FDA and Pharmaceutical Consultant, USA.

The Book of Scientific Summaries was inaugurated by the Guest. Another highlight of the event was the release of the second edition of the Desk book of Pharmaceutical Dissolution Science & Applications by Dr Tina Morris, CEO of AAPS, USA. The Desk Book is one of a kind and contains around 20 chapters written and written by expert scientists from around the world. The aim of this publication is to provide academics, industry analysts and researchers with an overview of the basics and fundamentals of science and dissolution testing, recent developments in instrumentation and automation, regulatory requirements changes and innovations in the science of dissolution and in vitro dissolution / release for new dosage forms. The Desk Book has been edited by leading experts from the United States, Dr Vinod P Shah, Dr Umesh Banakar and Dr Sandip Tiwari.
