It might not have been how they expected to spend the end of winter break, but with the pandemic continuing to rage amid a wave of the omicron variant, no one seemed to care.

“I was in basketball practice and got in the car, and my mom said, ‘You’re going to have your booster today,'” said Jayna Khatti, 15. “I was just going to sit at home, get ready for school, but it’s a lot more exciting.”

“I was worried it would take a long time before we got it, but I think it’s good because we’re about to travel a lot for sports and stuff, so I’m glad to have it now. “said 15-year-old Tennie McFarland.

At the Campbell Pharmacy in North Dallas, families flocked within minutes after learning their children ages 12 to 15 were eligible for the recall.

“It’s been busy. It was nice. This is what we were looking for, ”said Senior Clinical Pharmacist Dawn Moshier.

Parents and their children said today brings another layer of protection and, with it, peace of mind.

“Anything we can do to do our part to slow this thing down, we all agree,” said parent John McFarland. “Glad to see he’s been approved and executed so far.”

“My grandparents live at home with me, and right now my grandfather lives on the ranch,” said Thomas Rohrman, 13. “I want him to be able to live at home, so I have to get the vaccine so I can’t carry the disease to him.”

For Moshier, the crowded drugstore said it all.

“The problem is the joy on people’s faces. They’re happy. They want to come here and do this, ”she said.

The FDA has also cleared the recall for children over 5 years of age with weakened immune systems.
